What to Expect at Your First Appointment
Feeling a little nervous about your first appointment? That’s completely normal. We want to make the process as comfortable and straightforward as possible.
When you arrive, you’ll start by completing any paperwork that hasn’t already been submitted. You’ll then meet privately with a clinician for about 60–90 minutes. During this time, your clinician will get to know you, talk through what’s bringing you to therapy, and begin identifying your needs and goals.
Before your appointment, it may be helpful to think about a few things:
- How long has this been affecting you?
- Are there things that make it better or worse?
- What have you tried in the past?
- What would you like to see change through therapy?
- Who or what supports you right now?
You don’t need to have everything figured out before you arrive. Your first appointment is simply a place to start the conversation and begin thinking together about what support might be most helpful. Visit our Therapy 101: What to Expect at Maria Droste blog for a closer look at the therapy process and what getting started at MDCC is like.
